William A. (Bill) Carter, of Miramar Beach, FL, died Monday, May 25, 2020 at age 90.  He spent his last weeks at his son’s home in Enterprise, AL. He died peacefully with his wife of 70 years, Francile Cannon Carter, by his side.

Memorialization will be by cremation with a memorial service being held by the family at a later date.

Bill was born August 5, 1929 in Sheffield, AL. He spent his early youth there and his teen years in Birmingham, AL. Having skipped grades, he entered Birmingham-Southern College at the age of 16. At BSC he was a member of the ATO fraternity alongside his brother, Robert W. (Bob) Carter. He graduated in 1950 with a B.S in Biology and married fiancé Francile Cannon on September 23, 1950.  Bill and Francile raised three children together in Homewood, AL, and Dunedin, FL.

Bill worked as a salesman of pharmaceuticals and medical devices for over 42 years in the southeastern US. He made friends everywhere that he went. He was a kind and gentle man who was loved by all who knew him.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, F.A. and Beatrice Wilson Carter; his sister, Anna Francis Carter; his brother, Robert W. Carter; and his sister-in-law, Bonnie Carter.

Survivors include his wife, Francile Cannon Carter, now living in Enterprise, AL; his daughter, Cynthia Carter of Scottsdale, AZ; his sons, Clay Carter (Angie) of Enterprise, AL, and Brett Carter of Hoover, AL; as well as two grandchildren, Lindsay Carter of Orlando, FL and Steve Carter (Stephanie) of Washington, D.C.

As a Christian, Bill was assured of his future at the time of his death: “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.” Philippians 3:20-21
