Mavis Martin

Mavis Inez Lolley Martin, 97, of Philippi, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2022, at Madison Nursing Center in Morgantown, West Virginia.

She was born March 1, 1925, to the late Leon L. and Lillie Mae Wooten Lolley of Samson, Alabama.  She worked for many years as a secretary for Farmer Merchant Bank in Birmingham, Alabama. She was an active member of Tacy Crossroad United Methodist Church and CEO's.

Mavis is survived by her stepchildren. She was the matriarch of our family for over 60 years and held family together in the 40 years since our father’s passing.

Survivors include Robert Martin (Bea Kolb) of Waunake, Wisconsin; William Martin (Garnet) of Morgantown, West Virginia; and stepdaughter, Christine Bleigh (Gary) of Morgantown, West Virginia.  She had 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Owen Clyde Martin, whom she married on June 10, 1959 in Memphis, Tennessee; stepson, Owen C. Martin (Alicia); stepdaughter, Donna Jean MacKay (Donald "Pepe"); grandsons, Donald MacKay, James MacKay and Robert Martin; and brothers, Howard Lolley, Harold Lolley, and Charles Lolley.

Family and friends will be received at Crossroads United Methodist Church, 73 Laurel Creek Road, Moatsville, West Virginia, on Friday, September 23, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Cindy Morgan-Roberts officiating.  A graveside service and interment will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery in Enterprise, Alabama, with Pastor Danny Sherrer officiating.
