Marjorie Lanelle Jordan Charles was called home to rest with her Savior early Christmas Eve morning, December 24, 2020.
A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Reverend David Bradshaw officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home directing.
Marjorie was born to the late W.D. and Mattie Mae Jordan in Geneva County, AL and lived most of her life there including 70+ years on County Road 13 in Coffee Springs. She and her siblings spent many days working on the family farm. She attended Coffee Springs High School and graduated Valedictorian in the Class of 1953. She retired from Fort Rucker where she was employed nearly 30 years for Civil Service in Military Finance. Marjorie was full of determination and can-do attitude as evidenced by her learning how to play the piano after her retirement at nearly 60 years of age. She had a passion for reading, especially Grace Livingston Hill, and passed on her love of reading to many of her children and grandchildren. She read thousands of books and even reread many of them numerous times. Marjorie loved watching old episodes of Perry Mason, Matlock, and Murder She Wrote with her devoted husband E.R. She also loved dancing which she and E. R. richly enjoyed for years every Friday and Saturday night. She loved to travel and spent many days on the road in Florida, Ohio, Indiana, Canada, Georgia, Ireland and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Marjorie was an active member of First Baptist Church Coffee Springs where she participated in Sunday School and volunteered for VBS until her illness no longer permitted. In addition, she was an active participant in the local Red Hat Society. “Nonnie” will be remembered for many things but possibly none more than the joy she had in cooking and preparing spectacular southern style home cooked meals for her large and loving family. She will be missed and in our hearts forever.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents W.D. and Mattie Mae Jordan and siblings Mary Lavania Helms and William Junior Jordan. She is survived by her husband of 35 years E.R. Charles, children, Teresa Jones Davis (Randy), Coffee Springs, Wanda Jones Floyd (Wendel), Dothan, Jimmy Jones (Suzette), Coffee Springs, Raynelle Senn Jones (MinDerryl), Grayson, GA, Rebecca Senn Threat (Jeffery), Lawrenceville, GA, step-sons Bobby Joe and Gary Charles, Enterprise, 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, brothers Donald Jordan, Chancellor, Bobby Jordan (June), Milton, FL, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, and her maternal aunt, Rillie Simmons, her oldest living relative age 105.
