John (Jay) Leslie Sigler, II, 65, died peacefully on September 29, 2022, at home after an extended bout with cancer. He was surrounded by his son, Jason Ray Sigler; daughter, Jennifer L. Williams; and sister, Jackie McGuane. Jay is also survived by his mother, Betty J. Sigler; brother, Jeffrey D. Sigler; sister, Jerlyn Sloan; sister, Jill Sigler-Gillespie; his best friend, Terry Sloan; aunts and uncles; grandchildren, Nathan Williams, Guntar Williams, and Jasmine Sigler; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, John Leslie Sigler, I, a retired Army veteran of 30 years; sister, Jo E. Sigler; and grandparents, Norman and Grace Sigler, and Mary and Theodore Sidwell.
Jay was born in Augsburg, Germany, on August 25, 1957. Jay entered the U.S. Air Force January 9, 1976, and retired January 31, 2000, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant in Instructional Recourse Development. During his 24 years in the USAF, 20 years was dedicated to Education and Training Craftsman (Formal Training Instructor), and 4 years as a Fire Protection Craftsman. His decorations, medals, badges, citations, and campaign ribbons were: Air Force Achievement Medal w/1 device, Air Force Commendation Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal w/1 device, Air Force Longevity Service Award/4 devices, Air force Training Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon w/1 device, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award w/4 devices, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, and Air Force Good Conduct Medal w/6 devices.
Once retired from the Air Force, Jay worked at Lowe’s for a while – his favorite store if anyone knows him.
He also worked for Federal Civil Service from February 2003 until August 2022.
Jay loved to learn, teach, and mentor, as well as working and tinkering on cars, cultivating and growing plants, and going to the gun range. He was an animal lover even though he oftentimes said he wasn’t. In his early years he was an avid body builder and loved the gym, and he loved going fishing. He was an avid coffee drinker.
