Hilda Virginia "Jenny" (Counts) Curenton

Hilda Virginia “Jenny” Counts Curenton of Chancellor went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 5, 2021.  She was 90.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise with Reverend John McCrummen officiating.  Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continue until time of service.  Face mask and social distancing will be required to attend these events.

Jenny was born in Enterprise on August 20, 1930 to the late Willie B. and Era Mae Owens Counts.  In addition to her parents she was preceded from this world into her eternal home by her husband, George A. Curenton; her daughter, Georgie Debra Curenton; grandson, Richard “Ricky” Thomas Frazier, II; and siblings, Mildred, Pauline, Robert and Virgil.

Jenny left school and went to work at Gifford’s Restaurant in Enterprise where she eventually met and married George Alton Curenton of Coffee Springs, AL upon his return from military service in WWII.  After raising their family she returned to school and earned her GED.  During their 67 years together they partnered in the life and travels (adventures) of a military family. 

She is survived by her daughters, Virginia Ann Frazier (Richard), Betty Sue Harwell, Hilda Jane Hawkins (Mike), Irma Lanette Rydel (John) and Brenda Kay Curenton; 15 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Cecil Counts (Dee), Jerry Counts and Nell Jean Counts Murphy (William); and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express deepest gratitude for all our family, friends and neighbors for so much love and care making Jenny’s life and Earthly departure richer.  May our Lord bless each and every one with his peace and salvation.
