Gwendolyn Thames Cooper passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her family, who she loved more than life itself, following a 10 month battle with glioblastoma. She was 66.
Funeral services will be at 10:00am on Saturday July 29, 2023 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Enterprise with Reverend Alec Keating and Reverend Joel Snell officiating. Burial will follow in the Asbury Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 6:00pm until 8:00 pm.
Gwen was born September 7, 1956 in Alabama to JD and Mattie Elizabeth Stinson Thames. She retired after 30 dedicated years with the State of Alabama as an official court reporter. She was a faithful member of Holloway Tabernacle Assembly of God. She was a loving and caring individual who always held a positive outlook on life. Throughout the battle with her illness, Gwen’s faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ always remained strong. She felt very strong about God’s healing power through which she obtained the ultimate healing.
Gwen is preceded in death by her father, JD Thames; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert and Joyce Cooper.
Survivors include her husband, Tony Cooper; children, Ashlee Garner (Clay), Chris Cooper (Jordan); mother, Mattie Elizabeth Stinson Thames; grandchildren: Taylor Keating (Alec), Ella Grace Garner, Rowan Cooper; great-grandchild, Shepherd Cooper Keating.
