Gregory John Schrand of Enterprise, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2023.

Greg was born October 17, 1933, to Vincent H. Schrand and Marie Wess Schrand in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Donovan Schrand, their children Thomas G. (Sue) Schrand, Curtis P. Schrand (Arminda Lindsay), Linda S. (Brian) Crosby, his granddaughters Ella and Jane Schrand, and his brothers Bob (Betty, deceased) Schrand, John (Dixie) Schrand, and Ed (Carol) Schrand, as well as several  nieces and a nephews.

Greg attended Purdue University, where he joined the ROTC program while earning a degree in horticulture. Following graduation, he embarked on a 20-year military career as an Army helicopter and fixed-wing pilot. Greg served three tours of duty in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross for acts of heroism and extraordinary flying achievement. After retiring from the military, Greg and his family moved to a farm in Enterprise, Alabama, where he raised cattle and applied his horticultural skills to peanut and soybean production. Greg was an active member of the community, serving on the board of directors for the Alabama Farmers Federation and as a member of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association. He also served as president of the Parish Council, the Men’s Breakfast Club, and as chairman of the building committee, all at St. John’s Catholic Church, where he has been a member since 1975.

Greg was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his love of farming and dedication to his community. He was generous of heart, a good friend to many, and charitable with both his money and his time.
