Ernest Frank Spano of Enterprise passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020. He was 88.
Memorialization will be by cremation. At Ernest F. Spano's request, no service will be held.
Ernest was born July 16, 1932 in Tampa, Florida to the late Rosario (Sam) and Joaquina (Jackie) Spano. He retired from the United States Federal Government, Department of Defense, U.S. Army, as a Supervisory Chemist. He began his career as a Research Chemist with the U.S. Federal Government, U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Mines, in the Washington D.C. area. Ernest also served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956. He graduated from The University of Tampa in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and a minor in Mathematics.
Ernest was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Eljidia (Yiyi) Spano in January 2020; three sisters, and one brother. He is survived by his daughter, Kelly M. Spano of Florida; son Ernest F. Spano, Jr. of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Ernest devoted much of his time, efforts, and energy as a caregiver to his wife, who battled dementia, until she passed away at age 85.
