Mrs. Elizabeth Durden Shirley, of Daleville, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at her residence surrounded by family. She was 84.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 27, 2020 from the Daleville Assembly of God Church with Reverend James Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Newton City Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:00 pm and continuing until service time.
Mrs. Shirley was born March 29, 1936 to the late JB and Ethel Wood Durden. Elizabeth, also known as “Bibb” and “Maw Maw” to many, had a servants heart which was displayed in her passion for keeping children at her home. She also loved gardening, cooking, and crocheting. Most of all she loved her family. In addition to her parents; her husband, Charles W. Shirley, Sr.; one daughter, Mary Ethel Sasser; two sisters, Grace Patterson, Myrler Daw all preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Jo Christian (Randy); two sons, Charles W. “Pete” Shirley Jr. ; Scotty Shirley (Sharon) all of Daleville, Alabama; one sister, Sue Mayberry (Joe), Daleville, Alabama; one son-in-law, Eugene Sasser, Graceville, Florida; eleven grandchildren: Timothy Shirley, Charlie Shirley (Jennifer), Jacob Shirley, Tyler Shirley, Sierra Lindsey (Austin), Casey Christian, Chasitie Victor (Craig), Chelsie Chancellor (Kristina), Jeffrey Chancellor (Jessica), Amber Mullen (Ronnie), Corey Adams ; thirteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
