Coral Sue Lewis, of Rockwall, TX, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. She was 85. A graveside service will take place on the 30th of August 2023. at 10AM; as she is interred next to her husband at Chipley City Cemetery.
Born Coral Sue Shouppe, the 6th of seven children, on May 11, 1937, in Cottondale, FL, to the late Jefferson Davis Shouppe and Sarah Saluma (Campbell) Shouppe. On February 1, 1956, she married a military man, the late Orwin Coe Lewis of Chipley, FL, and began traveling the world. On what would have been her 67th Wedding Anniversary, she reunited with her Mr. Good Looking, bringing her love story full circle.
At the core of her life’s purpose was, in her words, “What costs the least and does the most is just a pleasant smile.” Sharing love, gratitude, and a pleasant smile was her expression of love for the Lord Jesus Christ. She enjoyed the fellowship of the local Church and loved a good ole’ fashioned Gospel sing. Her all-time favorite song Because He Lives by Gloria Gaither and William J. Gaither is a full expression of who she was. Being part of hospitality teams and outreach programs through various women’s groups and mission ministries brought her great joy.
One of her highest priorities was staying connected to family and friends. She was an avid golfer and claimed to be the true instigator of the Lewis Family Golf traditions. She loved the beauty of nature; watching and admiring birds, butterflies, and flowers was a favorite pastime.
As a Civil Servant, she prided herself on the countless number of awards, commendations, and accolades she received throughout her esteemed 30+ year career.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Sue Lewis, Canton, GA; one sister, Eleanor Shouppe Holley, Jacksonville, FL; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband; her sisters Theressa Shouppe Bounds, Huntsville, TX, Elaine Shouppe Carroll, Jacksonville, FL, Myralyn Ann Shouppe Fronzaglio, Phenix City, AL; and her brothers Jefferson Davis Shouppe, Columbus, GA, Franklin Delano Shouppe, Cottondale, FL. We will celebrate her life on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at 1:30 PM at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rockwall, TX. The inurnment will be in Chipley, FL, later in the year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to an organization that plants trees or gardens to beautify your community or to another charity of your choice.
