Yoko Ota Dahn, 91, of Dothan, AL, entered eternal rest on Monday, November 27, 2023.
She was born in Yokosuka, Japan, on March 1, 1932 to Sadahei and Chise Ota. She met the love of her life, Wilbur Henry Dahn, in Japan in 1955, was married, and moved to the United States. Mr. Dahn wanted Yoko to experience the United States, so together they spent time going from Miami to NY and coast to coast seeing all the wonders of her new homeland. On May 1, 1967, Yoko became a naturalized citizen of the United States of America. Mr. Dahn was stationed at Fort Rucker near Enterprise, AL, and after his retirement, they opened Dahn’s Nursery as well as a mobile home park. They started their family soon after marriage. Sadly she was widowed in 1972 and raised her children by herself. They were her pride and joy. She attended Wallace Community College and completed several courses with excellence, deciding to focus on upholstery work. Patrick Furniture employed Yoko for over 40 years. She was loved by all.
Yoko was a proud mother and grandma, a wonderful cook, an excellent seamstress, had a green thumb, and especially loved growing camellias. She will be greatly missed and remembered for her beautiful smile, courageous spirit, and gracious generosity. Mrs. Dahn was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur “Bill” Dahn, her parents, Sadahei and Chise Ota, and her younger brother, Yoshihiro Ota. She is survived by her daughter, Patty Jones of Oviedo, FL; her son Timothy Michael Dahn (Maria) of Dothan, AL; six grandchildren, Zachary Jones (Christina), Matthew Jones (Caitlyn), Gabrielle Jones, Isabella Tapia (Erik), Christina Dahn and Michael Dahn. Yoko is also survived by her brother Michihiro Ota (Setsuko), sister Sumiko Sakashita, and sister Nobuko Hirai.
