William Joseph Stanley, Jr.

William Joseph Stanley, affectionately known as "Grumpy," was born on November 7, 1948, and passed away on January 22, 2025, at the age of 76.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 4:00 pm  at Sorrells Funeral Home with Pastor Sean Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. A graveside service with military honors will be held February 10, 2025, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan, at 11:00 a.m. in the West Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Southeast Alabama Child Advocacy Center at 110 Harmony Lane, Dothan, Alabama 36301.

William was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Joyce Louise Stanley; his sisters, Jean, Jeanette, and Elizabeth Stanley; and his brother, Richard Allen Stanley. He was also preceded in death by his parents, William and Amy Stanley.

Born in Medford, Massachusetts, William proudly served his country for 20 years in the U.S. Army. He worked as a registered nurse, earning a master's degree in nursing, and retired from Medical Center Enterprise. He also taught at Auburn University of Montgomery. William was known for spoiling his daughter, Jennifer R. Stanley, and cherishing their many adventures together.

He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Michael Wigent); his brother, James Stanley (Katie); his sister, Margaret Oasen; and his beloved dog, “Precious”.
