The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00pm and continuing until service time.

William was born in Donalsonville, Georgia, on June 16, 1962, to the late James A. Paulk and Nelda Jean Hughes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Allen Paulk, and sister, Connie Paulk.

Most people shortened his name to Bill, but those who really knew him called him Mushy, a nickname born from an old western TV series, Rawhide, and carried with pride throughout his life.

He found his greatest peace on the water, casting a line and waiting patiently for that familiar tug that always made him smile. Fishing wasn’t just a hobby for him; it was his joy, his quiet place. On fall Saturdays, you could count on him cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide in his cut off jean shorts and bare feet. In his younger years, he poured his heart into restoring old muscle cars. He was a mechanic by trade, but also by passion.

When life grew heavy, he leaned a lot on God in prayer something he talked about often. And even in the hardest moments, he had a way of easing the weight with his favorite saying from his momma: “Don’t worry, it will all come out in the wash.” It was his way of saying that hope still had a place, even when the world felt dark or uncertain.

He appreciated the simple things in life and never missed a chance to share a cherished memory or a funny story. He loved his family with his whole heart, especially his daughters and grandchildren. He treasured those Sunday calls with his daughter, catching up on the week and offering a life lesson or two before ending with, “I love you, kiddo.” He was deeply loved and will always be remembered for his unique laugh and powder‑blue eyes.

Mushy is survived by his daughters, Ambria Barber (Chris) of Headland and Katherine Paulk; brother, Kenneth Paulk of Enterprise; grandchildren, Shelby and Connor Barber and Tristen and Elijah Reeves; and nephew, Jamie Paulk.
