Mrs. Virginia Barnes Herring, of Enterprise, Alabama, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation. She was 89.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 1:00 PM at New Home Baptist Church in Enterprise with Reverend Cliff Quincey officiating. Burial will follow at New Home Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 12:00 PM and continuing until service time.
Virginia was born in Coffee County on June 8, 1936, to the late J. B. and Willie Pearl Barnes. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Leamon Herring; brothers, Edgar, Donald, and Reuben Barnes; sisters, Maxine Barnes and Betty Hudson; and sisters-in-law, Lorraine Barnes, Nancy Barnes, and Clara Barnes.
Virginia was a member of New Home Baptist Church for many years where most of the members could say they had eaten a meal at her table. Her home was always open, especially to someone in need. She loved to host all the family gatherings on both sides of her family, and she was happiest when her house was filled with the love and laughter of her family. Virginia ran a tight ship in her home, but her family always knew how much she loved them by the warmth that was evident in her life.
Survivors include her children, Judy Howell (Randall) and Donnie Herring, both of Enterprise; siblings, Doug Barnes (Gayle) of Level Plains, Tony Barnes of Enterprise, and Dewey Barnes of Opp; three grandchildren, Wesley (Olivia)Howell, Hannah Roy (David), and Elizabeth Allums (Josh); nine great-grandchildren, Brinley, Lyla, Anderson, Sawyer, Jesse, Benny, Ruby, June, and Beau; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Enterprise Health and Rehabilitation, especially the caregivers on Hall 4, and DaySpring Hospice who gave such wonderful care to their mother.
