Samuel Rex Aycock

Mr. Samuel Rex Aycock, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away Monday, July 20, 2026. He was 97 years old.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise with Reverend Billy Cardwell and Reverend John Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery in Enterprise with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 10:00 AM and continuing until time of service.

Rex was born May 19, 1929, in Geneva County, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. and Nealie Williford Aycock, his wife of 73 years, Pearline Purvis Aycock; two brothers; and six sisters.

Rex was a member of Enterprise First Freewill Baptist Church, where he humbly served as a deacon and musician, and he attended Faith Assembly of God Church in Enterprise. He ministered to countless people through his God-given musical talent, especially by playing his guitar,which he had done since his teenage years. Whether playing in church, with a quartet, or wherever God gave him the opportunity, his music was a ministry that touched many lives.

Survivors include his daughters, Shirley Downs (Michael) of Enterprise, Alabama, and Rita Fletcher (Steven) of Bartow, Florida; grandchildren, Kevin Downs and Heather O’Cain (Grayson); and great-grandchildren, Lily Almandoz (John), and Griffin O’Cain.
