Robert Leonard Michaels

SFC (Retired) Robert Leonard Michaels, of Chancellor, Alabama, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Medical Center Enterprise.  He was 71.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 14, 2022, at El Bethel Baptist Church in Chancellor, Alabama, with Reverend Don Tew and Reverend William Hart officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon, February 13, 2022, from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M.  The family will receive flowers or contributions may be made to the Geneva County Community Church Mobile Food Pantry at https://genevacountyfoodpa.wixsite.com/gcfoodpantry.

Robert was born February 18, 1950, in North Carolina to the late Charles Pinkney and Vonnie Mae Pritchard Michaels. Robert was a proud military veteran serving in the Army on Active Duty and in the Reserves. Additionally, he served in the Air National Guard. Retiring as a SFC from the Army Reserves. Robert served in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division, 25th Aviation Battalion, B Company where he was awarded the Bronze Star/1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Campaign Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation with Palm.

Robert pastored Mims Hill Church for over five years and was Chaplain of the American Legion Post 78.  He had a love for his community which was shown when he started the Geneva County Community Church Mobile Food Pantry which he operated until his death.  Robert was also a lifetime member of the DAV, a Mason in Chancellor Lodge #664 as well as a member of Chancellor Wilkes Chapter #571 OES.

In addition to his parents, one brother, Gerald Michaels, two sons, James Michaels and Keith Stewart along with the mother of his children, Margaret Edberg Michaels, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Shelia Michaels; children, Charles Michaels (Jennifer) of Pike Road, Alabama; Trent Stewart (Tracey) of Lottie, Alabama; Regina Greer (Doug) of Coffee Springs, Alabama; brothers, William Michaels (Linda) of Morganton, North Carolina;  David P. Michaels of Fletcher, North Carolina; Steve Michaels (Carol) of Morganton, North Carolina; grandchildren: David C. Michaels, Will Michaels, Samantha Stewart, Lindsey Stewart, Ashley Greer Vandegrift (Slade) and Stewart Greer; great-grandchildren: Bryar Waltman and Abbi Ribeiro, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
