Ricky James Newsom

Mr. Ricky James Newsom, of Enterprise, Alabama, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Southeast Health in Dothan after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 64 years old.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory with Reverend Caleb Newsom and Reverend Ron Ball officiating. Burial will follow Meadowlawn Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends on Tuesday beginning at 1:00 pm until service time.

Ricky was born March 20, 1961, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to James Clayton and Mazie Bynum Newsom. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, James Lloyd and Pearl Bynum and Hubert and Thelma Newsom. Ricky was a man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He got immense joy watching Alabama football, listening to country music, and dancing the two-step. Ricky lived in Texas for several years where he owned and operated Post Parts until he became disabled and retired. Ricky attended Pleasant Ridge Methodist Church in Enterprise, and he was baptized at Open Door Baptist Church by Reverend John McCrummen, whom he had great respect for.

He is survived by his parents, who devoted themselves to caring for him in his final days with great love; his brothers, Clayton Carroll Newsom (Rebeca Rose) of Daleville, and Kenneth Newsom (Kathy) of Enterprise; aunt, Mavis Lolley; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Harrelson and DaySpring Hospice for the excellent care they provided him, as well as his special friends in Texas, David, Janice, Ava, and Donna, who spent time caring for him when he needed it most.
