Richard "Matt" Smith

Richard “Matt” Smith of New Brockton, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022.  He was 43 years old.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise with Reverend Steve Comer officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. continuing until the time of service.

Matt was born on June 2, 1979.  He was preceded in death by his father, Ronnie W. Smith.  Matt was known as an adventurist, especially with his children.  He was either navigating waterways in a boat he built with his incredible carpentry skills, becoming a NICA mountain bike coach, mountain biking, trail making, or artistically creating the next exciting outing for his children and the kids he coached.  Matt was a car enthusiast and expert mechanic.  He even served as a military chaplain’s assistant.  His sons describe him “like no other father we have ever known.  He was not just a regular dad.  He was always getting ready to take us on the next great adventure.”

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Brittany Smith; three sons, Gabriel, Christian, and Landon Smith; brothers, Luke Smith of New Brockton, and Aaron Smith (Helen) of Daleville; mother, Marsie Criswell Smith; grandmother, Ree Criswell; nieces, Destini and Samantha Smith; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
