Mr. Luther L. Allen of the Battens Crossroads Community peacefully passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama, surrounded by his family. He was 92 years old.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 AM at Goodman Baptist Cemetery on June 18, 2025, with Reverend Bruce Williams officiating under the direction of Sorrells Funeral Home. Masonic Funeral Rights will follow as per his wishes. Masons will serve as pall bearers with his grandchildren and great grandchildren serving as honorary pall bearers.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Luther’s life was marked by his unwavering faith, his boundless love for his family, and his warm spirit that touched everyone he knew.
He was born in rural Coffee County to the late Aubrey Willis Allen and Ellie Jane Allen. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 71 years, Bobbie Jean Jones Allen. Also proceeding him in death are his siblings Etta Mae Brown, Melvin W. Allen, Vader Esther Fortune, Murphy Allen, Alvena Smith, Howard Willis Allen, Claudie Clyde Allen, C. W. Allen, and Elvin Allen.
Luther was a member of the Goodman Baptist Church for many years where he served as a deacon as well as other church offices. He was also a Master Mason for 69 years and a member of Leverett Lodge 678. He served in the United States Army for four years to include time in France. He retired from Ft. Rucker, Alabama, in 1995 where he was employed for over 36 years working for various contractors in the aircraft maintenance division.
Survivors include his son, Timothy L. (Hilda) Allen of Enterprise and daughter Melissa (Tim) Pethel of Coffee Springs; brother, Aaron W. Allen of Mt. Morris, Michigan; grandchildren, Byron Kent (Nichol) Allen of Edwardsville, IL, Kylie (Jeremy) Fink of Dothan, AL, and Tyler (Brittney) Pethel of Headland, AL; great-grandchildren, Taylor Kennedy Huston-Allen, Lily Leann Huston-Allen, Jackson Clayton Fink, Mason Culver Allen, Kallen Hillary Fink; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Flowers will be accepted however memorials may be made to Leverette Lodge No. 678, at 3868 County Road 636 Enterprise, AL 36330 to be used to establish a memorial scholarship in his memory.
