John Truett Owen

John Truett Owen passed away on July 12, 2023 at Southeast Health in Dothan, Alabama at the age of 83.

A celebration of life will take place Saturday the 15th of July 2023 at Hillcrest Baptist Church at 2PM with Dr. Michael Mynatt and Reverend Jim Duhaine officiating. Burial will follow at Meadowlawn Cemetery. The Owen family will receive friends at the church from 1PM until service time.

Mr. Owen was born March 19, 1940 in Owensboro Kentucky, to the late Arch Davis and Evelyn Mae Walls Owen. John was also preceded in death by his wife of 38 years Margie Owen, his son Glen Hardy, daughter Sherri Hardy Gibson, son John Truett Owen, Jr., son Chris, his wife Leah, and their children Miller and Mallory Walls. His sister Carolyn Schocke, and brother Bob Owen.

He is survived by his wife Betty Carroll Owen. Son Ricky Hardy, bonus son Russell (Sonya) Walls. Grandchildren Kevin (Vanessa) Vanbuskirk, and Kyle Vanbuskirk. Sisters Nancy Gardner, Martha Szabo, and sister-in-law Peggy Carroll Stroud. Many nieces and nephews, whom he loved and who loved him.

John graduated from Owensboro High School, and Troy University. He served in the US Airforce for four years, and then worked for more than 27 years as an Air Traffic Controller. John loved the Lord and Hillcrest church where he worked the children’s ministry and sang in the choir. He loved having coffee with his buddies as they solved the world’s problems. He also loved Alabama Football, Atlanta Braves baseball, and music. He even played the guitar, piano, and keyboard. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles.
