John Richard Hollingsworth

John Richard (Rick) Hollingsworth, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at his

home in Enterprise, Alabama.

The son of John J. and Dixie Hollingsworth, Rick was born on September 21, 1946, in Fayette, Alabama.

He attended Fayette County High School, where he graduated in 1964. He went on to attend Auburn

University where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. Prior to completing his degree at

Auburn, Rick enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as an Electronics Technician on both the

U.S.S. Pocono (LCC- 16), the Flagship of the U.S. Atlantic Fleet, and the legendary aircraft carrier, the

U.S.S. Lexington (AVT-16). After four years of service to his country, Rick returned to Auburn University

to complete his degree.

After he graduated from Auburn in 1973, Rick began his career as an accountant for Alabama Power

Company in Birmingham. During his tenure as an accountant, Rick attended Birmingham School of Law.

He then returned to his hometown of Fayette, Alabama where he opened his own law practice. After

many years in Fayette, Rick and his family relocated to Enterprise, Alabama, where he continued to

practice law until he retired in 2017. Away from work, Rick enjoyed bird hunting, gun shows, old

western movies and Auburn athletics.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Dixie Hollingsworth. He is survived by his wife,

Rebecca Kay Reeves Hollingsworth of Enterprise, Alabama, his two sons; John Richard Hollingsworth, Jr.,

Esq. (Anna Beth), of Enterprise, Alabama, and Dr. Robert Brian Hollingsworth (Niki), of Winfield,

Alabama; His grandchildren, Brock Hollingsworth, Reid Hollingsworth, Jace Hollingsworth and Hudson

Hollingsworth, all of Winfield, Alabama and his ever-loyal rescue dogs, Gus and Charlie.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, January 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Furnace Hill Cemetery in

Vernon, Alabama, with Bro. Blake Thompson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that

memorial donations be made to an animal rescue or homeless pet shelter of choice.
