Janet Evans Simmons, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, transitioned to life eternal on December 20, 2024.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Enterprise, Alabama, on January 11, 2025, at 3PM. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 2PM and will continue until service time.
Janet was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1956 and excelled in swimming, diving, gymnastics, and horse training in her early years.
She graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and later received a graduate certificate in Homeland Security from Texas A & M University.
Janet served as a Captain (Chemical Officer) in the United States Army and retired from Southern Company having served roles in Chemistry, Emergency Preparedness, Engineering, and Engineering Training.
Since retirement Janet has devoted her time to volunteer for caregiving of others, rescue and fostering of animals, and competing in Sprint Triathlons. Additionally, she completed a Certified Nurse Assistant Program and worked as a Standardized Patient at ACOM.
Janet was preceded in death by her father, Winfield W. Evans, mother, Mary Agnes Ross, and sister Vicki Randolph. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Wendell Simmons; sisters, Linda Ross, Diane Grace, and Karen Evans; and brothers, Charles Evans, and David Evans; as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Family and friends will remember Janet for always giving 100% while having the energy of the ever-ready bunny, her selfless volunteering to help others, and most recently for her incredible attitude of “Why not me” in her battle with aggressive and refractory Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma.
