James Cowan

James “Jimmy” Cowan, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on November 30, 2024, at the age of 54. Born on April 25, 1970, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Jimmy was known for his selflessness, love for his family, and vibrant spirit. Affectionately nicknamed Slim, Scrappy, Cowan, and even Weasel, he brought joy and laughter to those around him.

Jimmy’s passion for the outdoors was evident in his daily ritual of watching the sunrise and sunset. He cherished his time spent fishing, bowling, golfing, playing pool, and darts. His true calling, however, was as an aircraft mechanic, a role that allowed him to combine his love for fixing things with his problem-solving skills.

He is preceded in death by his father, Douglas M. Cowan; his grandparents; and a dear friend, Jerry High. Jimmy leaves behind his wife, Mimi Vitor Cowan; his daughter, Lindsay Spaulding (Dylan); his mother, Stephanie Endicott (Ralph); his brothers David Cowan (Jen) and Tommy Cowan (Trece); and his cherished grandson, Oliver Spaulding. He is also survived by his friends, Paul Jenkins (Laura), Brian Jackson, and Christy High, who will miss him dearly.

In lieu of flowers, Jimmy’s family requests that friends bring pictures to the service or make a donation in his name to either the Boys and Girls Club of America or the Enterprise Lions Club for their Wounded Warrior Project at P.O. Box 310598 Enterprise Alabama 36331-0598.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory, with the family receiving friends from 1 PM until the service begins. There will also be an additional celebration of life on Saturday at 2 PM at Omussee Creek Park for anyone who would like to attend. Jimmy’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
