Hobson "Hobby" Mcdurmont

Hobson (Hobby) McDurmont of New Brockton, Al passed away January 21, 2025. He was 77 years old. Following his cremation, there will be a celebration of life with his family.

He was born July 29, 1947 in PaPa’s old house on the home place in New Brockton, Al. He graduated from New Brockton high school and proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war. After his service, he was last stationed in San Angelo and stayed in Texas and married his wife and built a life for his family. He eventually returned to his roots in Coffee County.

Hobby had many interests including hunting, fishing (can’t talk or we will scare the fish)  and landscaping (couldn’t keep him off the lawn mower) and spending many cherished moments outdoors (even if that meant he was taking a wild ride in his wheelchair around the pond or to get the mail)!  A hot cup of black coffee was a staple every morning. He enjoyed eating pop tarts, peanut butter and honey on saltines, Vienna sausage, sardines, M&Ms, and Oreos - but not necessarily all at the same time! He also loved watching westerns and his love for riding motorcycles was unprecedented. He loved some good trivia about music.  In his later years, he taught Sunday school and enjoyed studying the Bible to apply it to our everyday life. He was a strong father and leader, instilling values of hard work and dedication in his children.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Emily Kay McDurmont, his grandson Gunner Emory McCann and his parents Emory and Edna McDurmont.

He was survived by his children Amy (Jeff )McCann, Andrew (Nicole) McDurmont , Aaron (Linda)McDurmont, Andrea (Adam) Hooper. Grandchildren , Parker McCann, Taylor (Anna) McCann, Brianna McDurmont , Harlie (Michael) Matherly, Taylor Garritson, Kayleigh (Tyler) Yohn and Jessie (Will) Massey.  Numerous great grandchildren.

He is also survived by two brothers Kent (Donna) McDurmont and Scotty (Donna) McDurmont.
