Helen Lois (Watson) Grant

Helen Lois Grant of New Brockton, AL passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2020.  She was 89.

A graveside service will be on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in New Brockton with Reverend Mike Medley officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Grant was born and raised in New Brockton in the Bethany Community.  She was the daughter of the late John B. and Kate Watson.  She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Grant Denison; grandson, Michael Joby Denison (Dinah); sisters, Shirley Yarbrough, Sarah Cooper and Jean Sowell (Mark); a special sister-in-law, Dorothy Hurst; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Grant; son, Eddie Grant; great-granddaughter, Rachel Thornton; brothers, Massey Watson, Hulon Watson and John Watson, Jr.; and sisters, Peggy Hyatt and Frances Lindsey.

Lois was an active member of Wooten Chapel and the New Brockton Senior Center.  She went to nursing school and worked for many years as an aide in the hospital and the nursing home.  Lois was an excellent cook and baker and made the best layered cakes with homemade crunchy chocolate icing.  She will be greatly missed.
