Harold was born in Arley, Alabama to Tom and Janie Ward on March 26, 1936. He lived most of his life in Cullman, Alabama. Around 1988 he moved to Jacksonville, Florida following a job opportunity within the same company he worked for in Cullman. He spent most of his career with that company, and then after retiring decided to work maintenance for a local apartment complex. In 2009 he moved to Enterprise, Alabama because he wanted to be closer to his family, especially the younger generations whom he had not had the chance to spend much time with but were of special delight to him. He enjoyed watching country music television and as many football games as possible, especially when the University of Alabama played.
Harold was taught the importance of diligent Bible study and to place a high value on his relationship with Jehovah God, which led to him getting baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on January 11, 1955. After being inactive for many years, he had the joy of fulfilling his long-held desire to return to his spiritual roots once he moved to Enterprise. He became a member of the Enterprise Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and remained a member of that congregation until his death. He enjoyed spending time with his fellow brothers and sisters in the congregation, particularly when he was able to work in the ministry with his nephews and the other “young fellas” who made him feel young again. Even as his health deteriorated, he never missed a video released on JW Broadcasting – he viewed these videos as a lifeline when he was unable to attend meetings in person. He also appreciated the peace of mind that came from his renewed hope in God’s promises for a better future here on earth.
Harold is predeceased in death by his parents, Tom and Janie Ward, his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Morgan Beard, and a niece, Debbie Daniels. He is survived by his niece, Helen Owens of Dothan, nephew Danny Beard (Donna) of Enterprise, great-nephews Michael Tatum (Jessica) of Dothan and Richard Tatum (Leann) of Billingsley, James Beard (Terry), Daniel Beard, and Geoffery Beard (Madison) , all of Enterprise, and great niece Amanda Gant (Michael) of Dothan, and several great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Special thanks go to James, Terry, and Harleigh Beard for making space in their home for Harold to live with them, as well as providing dedicated and loving care for him, in the last year of his life.
