Gillian “Gill” Suzanne Raines passed away peacefully at Opp Health & Rehabilitation on Mother’s Day, May 11, 2025; she was 74.
Born on December 7, 1950, in England, Gill was the beloved daughter of the late Reginald and Doris Holden. She lived a full and warm life, touched by many, and was cherished by her family and friends.
Gill met her future husband, Carl Lex Raines, a U.S. Marine and later Army veteran, in England. Their love story was one of adventure and devotion, starting as penpals during the war, leading them to eventually settle in Enterprise, Alabama, where they enjoyed their retirement together.
Throughout her life, Gill worked as a cashier, building many friendships along the way. However, her greatest joy was her family. She cherished her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and happiness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, and her son Carl Raines, II, sister-in-law Eileen Holden, and her nephew Ashley Holden.
She is survived by her children: Lee Roddis (Michelle), Tracey Kilcrease, and Alex Coleman (Andrew); her brothers Malcolm Holden and David Holden (Karen). Gill also leaves behind six grandchildren: Samantha Massey (Chase), Austin Thomas (Annabell), Katelyn Thomas (Isaiah), Brandon Roberts, Rosie-May Norton, and Curtis Roberts and seven great-grandchildren: Finley, Ava, Kannon, Wesley, Nolan, Kohen, and Toby.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sorrells Funeral Home. A memorial service celebrating Gill’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 17th, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory.
Gill’s feistiness, humor, warmth, kindness, and loving spirit will be remembered by those who knew her best. She will be dearly missed. May her soul rest peacefully.
