Fred "Wayne" Hataway

This isn’t Good-Bye! We will see you later!

Fred “Wayne” Hataway of Kinston, Alabama, was born to Fred O. & Artie Hataway January 15th, 1948. Mr. Hataway departed this life December 17th, 2024, in Dothan, Alabama, after a brief illness.

Wayne attended school in his formative years in Kinston, Alabama and later joined the United States Army serving in Vietnam.

To know Wayne was to love him! He wasn’t always the easiest to deal with but he had the best intentions for those he loved. In Wayne’s eyes family didn’t only mean by blood.

For a man who didn’t drive he would sure try and give you ALL of the directions of life. Wayne could tell a lifetime of stories and sometimes he was even funny! If you ever just one time came to the Hataway Home there was always a ‘project’ going on where Wayne was the foreman and Bobby was the laborer. Sometimes Bobby would be accompanied by Dallas. You better measure it twice and check with Wayne before doing anything because his way was always going to be the right way. That is just a tiny, tiny example of the humor and love we shared through the years with Wayne, and we wouldn’t have it any other way except to have shared those times a bit longer.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Wendy Smith (Joe) of Birmingham; son, Eric Hataway of Opp; stepdaughter, Yvette Nelson (Eric) of Kinston; stepsons, Todd Pittman of Andalusia and Chris Katauskas of Red Level; grandchildren, Cody Hataway, Mikeal Hataway, Austin Hataway, Kelcie Hataway, Faith Hataway, Micheal Regan, Brian Regan, Ty Katauskas, Journee Katauskas, and Skye Katauskas; brother, Warren Hataway of Kinston; sister, Gail (Tommy) Blackstock of Opp; best friend, Bobby Lolley of Kinston; Brothers-In-Arms, Mel Chung of Kaunakakai, Hawaii, and E.L. Wheeler of Erwin, Tennessee.

Wayne was proceeded in death by his parents, Fred O. & Artie Hataway; special companion, Seretha Katauskas; and we can’t forget Rascal.

He took comfort in knowing where he would spend his eternal life because his vessel was temporary.

REVELATION 21:4 “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

The family will be holding a private graveside service at Rhoades Cemetery in Kinston, Alabama. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to Enterprise Lions Club Wounded Warrior Project at P.O. Box 310598 Enterprise Alabama 36331-0598.
