Florence Self Chastain

Florence Self Chastain passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023 in Dothan, Alabama. She was 97.

Funeral services will be at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023 in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home& Crematory in Enterprise with Reverend Ray Layton officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday prior to the service beginning at 1:00pm and continuing until service time. A graveside will follow on Monday, April 17, 2023 at the Bethlehem Cemetery in Blount County at 1:00 pm

Bethlehem Cemetery is located at 251 Dallas Loop, Trafford, Alabama 35172.

Florence was born February 12, 1926 to the late Carlos and Clara Alsie Horsley Self. In addition to her parents, her husband, Robert G. Chastain; daughter, Imogene Hinshaw; infant son; one grandson Johnny Brewer; brother, Leldon Self; sisters, Marcel Self, Lora Higginbotham, Elizabeth Self all preceded her in death.

She was a woman that loved her family and made her Lord the center focus of her life with daily devotionals and bible study. Florence also loved her family, and loved to garden, but most of all she looked forward to the yearly family gatherings at a Thanksgiving meal which she would start preparing for two weeks prior to Thanksgiving. She enjoyed this fellowship with her friends and family.

Survivors include her children: Shirley Malone (Neal), Tammy Hollister (Mike), David Phillips; one sister, Bonnie Reid; grandchildren: Wayne Brewer (Joy), Karen Maury (David), Bobby Walker (Jeanie), Brandon Brewer (Amber), Michael Hollister (Ashley), Hayden Stefin (Matt) , Amanda Phillips; great-grandchildren: Zack Mabry (Kelsey), Abbi Whited (John), Brady Walker, Jonathan Brewer, Brianna Brewer, Chance Hollister, Evan Phillips; special caregivers: Crystal, Tasha, Amy, Betty, Renae; special friend, Ilene Livingston.
