Dr. Walter E. "Gene" Warren

Dr. Walter E. Warren, Jr., lovingly known as “Gene,” passed away on October 19, 2026, at the age of 74, following a long illness. Surrounded by the love and prayers of his family, Gene was welcomed into the arms of his Heavenly Father, leaving behind a lifetime of treasured memories and a love that will never fade.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory with Reverend Rhea Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time.

Above all else, Gene’s greatest love was his beloved wife of 55 years, Gilda A. Warren. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to devotion, commitment, and a love that endured through every season of life. Gilda was more than his wife; she was his sweetheart, his best friend, his comfort, and his home. Together, they built a lifetime of memories, weathered life’s storms, and shared a bond that even death could not break.

Fifty-five years could never be enough with the person who holds your heart. Though Gene’s earthly journey has ended, the love he shared with Gilda will live on in every memory, every quiet moment, and every heartbeat. Some love stories do not end with good bye. They simply continue in the hearts of those who shared them.

Gene also held an immeasurable love for his son, Christopher L. Warren. The bond between father and son was one of Gene’s greatest blessings. Through the lessons he taught, the memories they created, and the love they shared, Gene leaves Christopher a legacy far greater than words can express. A father’s love does not end when his life does; it lives forever within his son.

His heart was equally filled with love and pride for his grandchildren, Chance M. Warren, Hayden W. Couch (Conner), Hudson L. Warren, and Kathryn E. Warren, and his precious great-grandson, Jaxon A. Warren. Each brought special joy to his life, and each will carry a piece of his love into the generations to come.

Gene was a lifelong learner with a curious mind and an appreciation for knowledge. Yet his greatest accomplishment was not measured by what he knew or achieved, but by the family he loved and the lives he touched.

Gene was a man of deep faith, steadfast dedication, and a sincere love for others. As a Doctor of Christian Clinical Counseling, he devoted much of his life to serving individuals and families throughout the Wiregrass area. His work was more than a profession; it was a calling rooted in his Christian faith and his heartfelt desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

Guided by the Word of God, Gene believed in the importance of compassion, kindness, and encouragement. Through his years of dedicated service, he offered hope, wisdom, and understanding to those whose paths crossed his. His legacy of faith, service, and genuine love for people will be fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Gene was preceded in death by his father, Walter E. Warren, Sr., and his mother, Yvonne Campbell Warren.

Gene is survived by his devoted wife, Gilda A. Warren; his loving son, Christopher L. warren, and daughter-in-law, Mary H. Warren; his sister, Sung Dong (Le Doan) of Orlando, Florida; his brother, Robert Warren (Shannon) of Buffalo, Missouri; his four beloved grandchildren; his cherished great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

To his beloved Gilda: After 55 beautiful years, there are simply no words that can make goodbye easier. But may you find comfort in knowing that you were his once-in-a-lifetime love. The years you shared, the home you built, and the family you created are a beautiful reminder that true love never really leaves us.

If love alone could have kept him here, he would have lived forever.

Gene’s suffering has ended, but his love remains. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, and a man whose greatest legacy was his family.

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7

Rest peacefully, Gene. Until we meet again, you will forever be loved, forever be missed, and forever be ours.
