Chong Hui "June" Porter

Chong Hui "June" Porter of Daleville, Alabama, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024, at her home. She was 85.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1 PM and continue until the time of the service. The final disposition will be by cremation.

She was born in Japan on May 20, 1938, to the late Yon Hwang Bo and UL Saeng Yi during the Japanese occupation of Korea. During World War II, she and her family returned to South Korea. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, John J. Porter, and her son, Robert T. Porter. In addition to two brothers Mun Hwang Bo (Daleville) and To Song Hwang Bo (Korea).

As a Korean National military spouse, she overcame many challenges raising her family while her husband served two tours in Vietnam. Her devotion to her family enabled her husband to complete twenty years of service in the U. S. Army. After her husband's retirement, John and Chong moved to Daleville, Alabama in May of 1983 where she stayed as a resident. Chong was an exceptionally talented seamstress who enjoyed dancing, singing, and having quality time with family and friends. Her passion for life enabled her to overcome multiple health issues including lung cancer. Chong's strength was the family's rock, the glue that held the family together.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn Hacker of Enterprise, Alabama, Sandra Fisher of Pasadena, Maryland, and Daniel Porter of Daleville, Alabama; siblings Chong Cha On (Michigan), Chong Hwa Huang (Florida), Chong Suk LaTour (Florida), Chong Ok Barber (Florida), and Pyong Hwangpo (Alabama); 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
