Listen to Obituary

Barbara Clare Laumeyer, age 94, of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, with her loving family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise, Alabama, with visitation beginning at 12:00 noon. Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery in Enterprise. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date at St. Luke Catholic Church in Palm Harbor, Florida.

Barbara was born on March 9, 1932, in Tacoma, Washington, to John Yalmer Blumstrom and Gertrude Linneman Blumstrom. She spent her early years in Washington before graduating from Lewiston High School in Lewiston, Idaho. Following her passion for caring for others, she attended St. Elizabeth Nursing School in Yakima, Washington, becoming a Registered Nurse. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Troy University.

While at Fort Lewis, Washington, Barbara met the love of her life, Norman George Laumeyer, an Army aviator. The couple married on June 16, 1956, and together shared a life filled with adventure, service, and devotion to family. Military assignments took them to Germany, Kentucky, and Alabama before they settled in Daleville in 1965. Norman and Barbara later moved to Enterprise in 2007 and, in 2018, relocated to Palm Harbor, Florida, to be closer to her family.

As a devoted Army wife and mother of five children, Barbara dedicated much of her life to her family. Once her children were older, she resumed her nursing career at Enterprise Hospital, where she became Director of Nurses. She later served the citizens of Dale County through the Dale County Health Department as a Public Health Nurse before retiring.

Barbara’s commitment to serving others extended beyond her professional career. She generously volunteered with Wiregrass Emergency Pregnancy Service (WEPS), the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD), and the Officers’ Wives Club (OWC). Her faith, compassion, and servant’s heart left a lasting impression on countless lives.

She especially enjoyed playing bridge, traveling the world after retirement, and spending time with her family. Above all, Barbara treasured her role as an Army wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

She is survived by her children, Carol (Bruce) Buckler of Lutz, Florida, Mary Clay (Tommy Stevenson) of Midway, Georgia, John (Vita) Laumeyer of Cooper City, Florida, Dianne (Darryl) McDonald of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Linda (Scott) Benninghoff of Tampa, Florida; nine grandchildren, Amy, Jason, Michelle, John, Claire, Victoria, Kathryn, Dalia, and Olivia; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, LTC (Ret.) Norman George Laumeyer; her parents, John and Gertrude Blumstrom; and her sister, Glenna Marie Wilkinson.

Barbara’s family will forever remember her kindness, strength, faith, and unwavering love. Her legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured and the many lives she touched throughout her remarkable journey.
