Mrs. Angeline Godwin Schomp of Chancellor, Alabama, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 14, 2025. She passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old.
Angeline "Angie" was born in Coffee County, Alabama, on March 20, 1937, to the late Carl "Jack" and Mary Ruth Godwin. She grew up on a cotton and peanut farm, where hard work was instilled in her at an early age. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Donald Ditmar Schomp, and brother, Harold Godwin.
A true spring baby, her life mirrored the season. She loved flowers and had a deep appreciation for nature. She was energetic and full of life, her vibrant personality was beautifully captured by the her favorite color yellow. She was an accredited flower show judge and a long-standing member of the Daffodil Garden Club. She enjoyed working in her yard, and spent time fishing, sewing and quilting.
Angie loved playing the piano and, with strong determination, taught herself to play at a young age. She was an active member of First United and Sardis Methodist Church, playing the piano, teaching Sunday school and organizing church events.
She had incredible strength and was known for her bold, sociable, and confident personality. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh, and was always ready to share the latest news. She loved cooking and sharing recipes. She was a true giver and poured her heart into caring for others.
She was a supportive military wife, making a home in many different places, and greatly enjoyed her time living in Taiwan. In later years she worked part-time for the United States Postal Service as Postmaster Relief (PMR) until retirement.
She was a faithful wife, loving mother, and very proud grandma and great-grandma. She is survived by her daughter, Stasia Ann Schwartz (Dan) of Summerville, SC; son, Stephan Hale Schomp (Joy) of Chancellor, AL; one brother, James Arthur Godwin (Betty); sister-in-law, Jerlon Godwin; three grandchildren, Mckenna Edwards, Evan Schwartz, and Jack Schwartz; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory in Enterprise with Reverend Johnny Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at Sardis Methodist Church Cemetery in Chancellor with Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory of Enterprise directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 9:30 AM and continue until service time.
